Before you upload

Save as PPTX

Export your presentation as .pptx, then upload it to the converter. Legacy .ppt files are not supported here. The output follows the slides and their readable text; it does not recreate the slide canvas.

Read the output slide by slide

Text boxes can be stored in an order that differs from the visual reading order. Check titles, callouts and multi-column slides against the presentation. A slide with many shapes may need editing after conversion.

Understand visual limits

Charts, screenshots, animations and diagrams do not automatically become explanatory prose. This version does not use image descriptions or OCR. Add important visual context yourself before sending the text to an AI tool.

Choose a format. Keep the content.

Each file type needs a slightly different approach. Start with the format you use.

MarkItDown online: common questions

What is MarkItDown?

MarkItDown is Microsoft’s open-source Python library for converting documents into Markdown. This independent website adds a browser interface; it is not a Microsoft service.

Is the converter free?

This preview is free, with one file up to 20 MB per request and 30 attempts per 10 minutes per IP. The server processes one conversion at a time. If it is busy, try again shortly.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

This version extracts existing text. Scanned pages and image-only documents need OCR, which is not enabled here. A blank result will show a clear message instead of an empty download.

Will my layout look exactly the same?

Markdown preserves useful structure, not page design. Check complex tables, equations, reading order and slides with many text boxes before using the output.

Where do uploaded files go?

Files are sent to this server for conversion, then temporary input and output files are deleted when the request finishes. Downloads return the current Markdown to the same server to create an attachment without saving it. We do not keep document history or send files to an AI API. Start with sample files during this preview.
